Cheers to the Freakin Weekend: Fonda Fridays & a Few Finds
Kindness, Intent, & Investing in Your Health

Welcome back to the Daily Dumbbell, your daily dose of fitness wisdom and questionable advice. Remember, if all else fails, a solid chest day in the gym is almost guaranteed to help whatever is ailing you.
Unless that ailment is a bum shoulder because you’ve been benching multiple times a week in an attempt to fix your problems… Shit.
Anyway, today we have Friday Finds and another gem from the Patron Saint of Neon workout garb herself, Jane Fonda.
Let’s dive in!

Friday Finds:
A Quote
From James Clear’s 3-2-1 Newsletter:
II.
A short lesson about kindness and generosity:
"I heard my mom asking our neighbor for some salt. We had salt at home so I asked her why she was asking.
She told me, "They don't have much money and they sometimes ask us for things. So I asked for something small that wouldn't burden them. I want them to feel as if we needed them too. That way, it will be much easier for them to ask us for anything they need."
People want to help others. Don’t deprive others who care about you from helping along your journey. Sometimes it might mean more to them than it does to you.
A Podcast
This My First Million episode with Rob Dyrdek.
You might know Rob as a professional skater, Reality TV star, or the host of Ridiculousness. He’s a man of many talents, not to mention his affinity for the mini horse game.

You won’t hear people talk about their systems or how they think about investments and wealth this honestly very often. This one was littered with golden nuggets.
A Statistic
55% of Men Don’t go to the Doctor Regularly
June is apparently Men’s Health Month. Who knew? Important to point out here that it’s a month to be more aware of the health of men. Not a month celebrating that magazine.
Cancer & Heart Disease are the leading cause of death among men. The best way to prevent them? Catching them early.
If you haven’t had a physical recently, go get one.

Fonda Friday:
“Instead of drifting along like a leaf in a river, understand who you are and how you come across to people, and what kind of an impact you have on the people around you and the world, so that when you go out, you can feel you have made a positive difference.”
Listen, we’re 50/50 on this one. On the one hand, this is great advice. You can’t hope to get what you want in life by hoping that the river or the wind will take you there.
Be conscious about who you want to be, how you interact with others, and the impact you have on the world. Fantastic advice Fonda.
On the other hand, life is rough sometimes. There will be times when fighting against the current is futile and you’d be much better off just relaxing.
Maybe that’s why basically every culture on the planet has a version of the Serenity Prayer.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Fight for what you want when it’s obtainable. Like growing this newsletter.
Relax and accept the frustrating/bad things you cannot control. Like admitting we’ll probably never figure out the difference of affect/effect without Googling it every time.
But, this only works if you have the ability to tell the difference between the two, and that is probably the hardest skill of all.

Happy Friday friends! We hope you have an amazing weekend! We’ll be back to our regular schedule of 8am next week 🙂
