Friday Finds: Jane Fonda & The Great British Bamboozle
A quote on wisdom, a shake from Baskin Robbins, and some drama in the running & fake meat industries

Welcome back to the Daily Dumbbell, the Nikola Jokic of health and fitness newsletters. Not enough people know our name considering how freaking good we are at this game.
Happy Friday everyone! We have a short one for you today so you can get back to pretending to work for a half day.
We have Jane Fonda, Baskin Robbins, and some good ol fashioned British drama.
Let’s dive in!

Fonda Friday:
“One part of wisdom is knowing what you don’t need anymore and letting it go.”
What are you hanging onto that is no longer serving you?
It could be a habit, a job, or even a person. Take some time to assess and see if you can’t improve your life simply by letting go.

Friday Finds:
This Chocolate Oreo Shake went viral on Twitter. That is a full day of calories for most people. 135g of fat & 263g of sugar is truly bonkers as well.

It stoked some debate around whether this should be allowed.
We don’t have a strong opinion either way. Objectively, this is outrageous and selling it is irresponsible.
But we’re free to do what we want 🤷
This Article about an uptick in deaths among those attempting to summit Everest
17 people died and 5 are still missing. If they aren’t found this will be the deadliest year on record. Why? There are a few theories:
The government gave out a record number of permits this year. More climbers = more deaths.
Climate change has made the already extreme conditions on the mountain more unpredictable
The guide companies have varying levels of safety. Some see it as their responsibility to get you to the top, others see themselves as a logistics partner with no responsibility to you whatsoever.
Yikes.
Absolute shenaniganry in the running world. If you guessed the Brits were behind it, you’re correct.
William Goodge, the very handsome British Influencer, completed his run across America this week.
The final time: 55 days 23 hours 51 minutes
Suck it Zuckerberg.
This made Goodge the fastest Brit to cross America by a little over a day, although he was well short of the all time record of 42 days.
It was however, one of the 12 fastest times in the last decade, and it made some other, more accomplished runners, very dubious. Why?
Some rather fishy trends in his heart rate data
A lack of an impressive running career in his past
His heart rate tended to be higher in the morning than in the afternoon and at some points, didn’t really respond at all during changes in elevation.
Turns out, there are very experienced, elite runners who take these things very seriously. So much so that one of them, William Cockrell (another brit) flew out to Oklahoma to confront Goodge and the team.
I don’t like the way a lot of these Instagram influencers are getting all these followers by saying ‘I’m an amazing runner’ when they’re not,”
The accusation? Watch muling. Or sharing the tracker watch among multiple runners. The team’s response? Some light violence lol. It’s a good read.
It’s not just Influencers who can’t get along. The fake meat industry is at each others throats over copyright infringement.
Motif Foodworks is accusing Impossible Foods of hiring private investigators to try and obtain food samples and circumvent the discovery process in their lawsuit.
This isn’t all that interesting, but the specific accusations are hilarious if you choose to read it.

Thats all for this week folks! Hope you have a fantastic weekend and we’ll see you back here on Monday!
